The Resource people for the seminar included Dr. Anu Gupta, Department of Computer Science, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Dr. G S Lehal, Professor, Deptt. of Comp. Sc., Punjabi University, Patiala and Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Deptt. of Comp. Engg., IIT Roorkee.
“Excellence is an art won by training , enlightenment and motivation”. Training not only helps in enhancement and updation of existing knowledge but also helps in improvement of proven strengths. Keeping in view the same, the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, DAV College, Chandigarh organized a specialized training and motivational workshop “Train the Trainer” for its faculty on 23/5/2015. The specialized workshop was inaugurated by The Principal, Dr B.C Josan. The resouce person for the workshop was Prof Anuj Kumar from DCSA, Panjab University. Prof Kumar appraised the faculty on the emerging techniques and trends in the field of Information Technology and also highlighted the benefits of adopting the same for the benefits of students to enable them to be in sync with the latest requirements and demands of the recruiters and IT services providers. In this present era of technological advancement, researchers are working extensively in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) to design and build software that will analyze, understand, and generate languages that humans use naturally, so that eventually a human being is able to address the computer as though he was addressing another person. Punjabi is one such language for which immense amount of Research and Development work is underway in the field of Natural Language Processing. IT Club started Faculty Development Program in the session 2012-13 .As the part of this program, each member of the faculty was required to present a seminar/presentation on a topic of his choice.The topic of the seminar was to be selected very carefully keeping in mind the latest innovations in the field of information and technology.To ensure that classes were not affected due to this program, it was organized once in a week, usually on weekends .The attendance of the faculty members in the seminar was compulsory.At the end of the each seminar, queries related to the seminar were taken by the faculty member who presented the seminar.
Important topics such as ExpertSystems,Cloud Computing,HTML5,Sixth Generation of Computers,Brain Finger Printing etc were covered in the seminar.
A workshop on effective teaching and faculty development was organized at DAV college by the departments of IT and Management on 16th Nov 2012.Dr. Jayanti Dutta , Deputy Director, Academic Staff College, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the resource person for the workshop. She interacted with the faculty and helped them understand the skills required for effective teaching. She focused on teaching subjects as well as the importance of sharing experiences with the students to encourage their all round development.Mock teaching sessions to enhance the teaching skills of faculty were conducted in the workshop. Performance of the teachers were evaluated based on several parameters by Dr Jayanti Dutta and other faculty members.
