Swiftest Finger First- The Typing Test

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, DAV College, Chandigarh conducted a workshop on “Essentials of Networking” and a technical skill enhancement test “Swiftest Fingers” on 20-08-2015 for the students of BCA / M.Sc. (IT). The principal B.C. Josan inaugurated the events and motivated the students to participate in the various technical / programming / logical and skill development events to achieve comprehensive growth and development of the young technocrats for the future endeavors. The Resource people for the workshop were Mr. Rajiv Nayyar and Mr. Rakesh Garg from the leading networking solutions provider: “Infowiz-Software Solutions”, a firm registered with CII and national award winner for the best IT Centre of 2014-15. The workshop was organized to enlighten the students about the various aspects of networking and internet security and the latest networking tools and techniques prevalent in the research and development industry. Using a live project, Mr. Garg demonstrated how various networking tools can be helpful in saving our valuable data from hackers and other malicious programs on the internet. He also gave some handy practical tips to overcome frequently encountered bugs in network centric programming. The technical test was organized to provide an opportunity to the students to evaluate their logical skills. Around 150 students attended the workshop and participated in the technical test.


PowerPoint Presentation Competition

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, DAV College, organized a “PowerPoint Presentation” competition on 19/10/2015 to know the perspectives of youth on various issues which are prevalent in Tricity like Junk food, Social media, Physical fitness, Drugs and Traffic. More than 30 students of BCA, BSc. Computer Science and MSc. IT actively participated in the event and intellectually showed: how preferences and inclination of individuals of all ages are getting towards junk food, potential issues that arise due to misuse of social media, effects of sedentary lifestyles on the physical fitness of individuals, factors leading to indulgence of individuals in drugs and problems related to traffic congestion and increasing rate of accidents due to breaking traffic rules. The eminent judges were amazed by the problems and effective solutions presented by the participants on the current issues prevalent in Tricity. Each presentation was judged on various critical parameters and considering those parameters Mohit-Chayanit; Pallavi-Shanu; Harpinder-Viney of BCA were declared first, second, and third respectively. All participants were appreciated for their endeavour and the winning teams were awarded with Medals and Certificates of Appreciation.

Power Point Competition

The Power Point Competition was held in the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology on 08 August, 2013. The students from various streams of Computer Science, Computer Applications and Information Technology participated in the event. The motive of the event was to provide a platform to students so that they can explore their presentation and visualization skills. The broad topics on High Performance Computing were chosen for the presentation keeping in mind, the emerging trends in Information Technology. The participants were evaluated on various parameters viz. Animation Style, Background and Foreground Selection, Linguistics Selection, Picture Selection, Text Matching etc. The participants made their best in the preparation of the presentations. It was difficult for the judges to select the best presentations to declare the winners as all the presentations were designed with full innovation and creativity.

Debugging Competition


Keeping in mind the deteriorating environmental conditions and ever decreasing green cover, Department of Computer Science, DAV College, Sec 10,Chandigarh organized a Paper Less Debugging Competition on Oct. 08, 2013 for evaluating technical and programming skills of students from various streams in the college . The competition comprised questions from various prevalent programming languages (C, C++ AND Java) being used for application development in the IT industry. The questions were designed to ensure that the students have hands on experience of removing complex and critical problems in the area of application development. The questions were comprised of the various problems which are being encountered in the current application development scenario in the IT industry. The students were also apprised of the various environmental hazards being caused by excessive cutting of trees for paper generation.
