In this present era of technological advancement, researchers are working extensively in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP) to design and build software that will analyze, understand, and generate languages that humans use naturally, so that eventually a human being is able to address the computer as though he was addressing another person. Punjabi is one such language for which immense amount of Research and Development work is underway in the field of Natural Language Processing. Since every new endeavor is met with some issues and challenges, similarly there are some issues and challenges in the computerization of Punjabi. With the intent of enriching the faculty with the issues and challenges in the field of computerization of Punjabi, Departments of Computer Science and Punjabi, DAV College, Chandigarh
organized a National Seminar on “Computerization of Punjabi Language: Situation, Challenges and Solution” on 2nd March,2015. Dr.C.P Kamboj, eminent researcher, columnist and the first author to pen down 18 computer & IT books in Punjabi language and also translator for several computer books from English to Punjabi and Dr. Vishal Goyal , academician who has profound amount of research work to his credit, both from the Department of Computer Science, Punjabi University, Patiala, were the resource persons for the seminar .
The Seminar was Inaugurated by Dr.B.C Josan, Principal, DAV College, Chandigarh. Dr Josan congratulated the departments for their endeavor and motivated students and faculty to draw inspiration from Dr.C.P Kamboj and Dr.Vishal Goyal who have achieved a niche in their respective fields.
Dr.C.P Kamboj enlightened the faculty and students about the structure and semantics of Natural Language Processing and its component technologies like Linguistics, Natural Language Generation and Artificial Intelligence. Dr.Vishal Goyal appraised the faculty and students about various industrial applications of Natural Language Processing and benefits of computerization of Punjabi. He highlighted various issues like sentiment analysis, coreference resolution, word sense disambiguation, information translation and text summarization in the computerization of Punjabi.
